Data Engineer – Fintech (Hybrid, Nigeria)

About the role
Our client, a fintech technology company focused on payments solutions in Africa, is looking for a Data Engineer to design, build and maintain data pipelines and platforms at scale. The role is hybrid, based in Nigeria, and operates in a remote‑first environment.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, test and deploy end‑to‑end data ingestion, processing and storage pipelines.
- Maintain and optimise streaming solutions using Kafka, Debezium and Kafka Connect.
- Orchestrate workflows with Apache Airflow, Databricks, Dagster or Airbyte.
- Design and manage databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redshift (and optionally BigQuery or SingleStore).
- Implement infrastructure as code using Terraform, Kubernetes and Helm.
- Collaborate with data scientists and BI teams to enable analytics and reporting.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of data engineering experience and 2 years of software development experience.
- Strong problem‑solving attitude, ability to work independently and in a team.
Required skills
- Python (essential); JavaScript, Scala (advantageous).
- Kafka, Debezium, Kafka Connect.
- Apache Airflow, Databricks, Dagster, Airbyte.
- MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redshift, BigQuery, SingleStore.
- Terraform, Kubernetes, Helm.
- AWS services.
- Complex SQL query writing.
- Unit and integration testing, CI/CD pipelines.
- Tableau, Looker, DOMO (BI reporting tools).
