Country Director – Nigeria & Lake Chad

About the role

The Country Director, Nigeria & Lake Chad, is the senior-most representative of CIVIC in the region, providing strategic, programmatic, operational and representational leadership. Based in Abuja, the role drives the organization’s mission to strengthen community resilience, promote protection of civilians, and foster accountable security practices across Nigeria and the wider Lake Chad Basin.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership for CIVIC’s Nigeria and Lake Chad portfolio, aligning with the Africa Strategy and Global Strategic Plan.
• Lead strategic growth, resource mobilization, donor engagement and partnership development to secure a diversified funding pipeline.
• Oversee high‑quality research, policy briefs, protection assessments and civilian‑harm analysis, ensuring conflict‑sensitive, gender‑responsive programming.
• Represent CIVIC in high‑level discussions with governments, donors, regional institutions (LCBC, ECOWAS, AU, MNJTF) and international partners.
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with security institutions, civil society, UN agencies and multilateral organizations to advance civilian protection priorities.
