Construction Officer (Architectural Background)

About the role

A fast-growing Nigerian grocery retail chain with strong financial resources is hiring a Construction Officer in Ibadan, reporting to the Regional Manager. The role works closely with the expansion manager to deliver construction projects for new store outlets across several locations in Lagos. The objective is to ensure on-time store openings, at the lowest possible cost and to the quality defined by the company's Construction Manual.

Key responsibilities

• Review and approve offers and invoices from construction companies for new stores and renovations
• Clarify and process quality claims, and decide on the cost of parts and materials used
• Reject unsuitable construction companies and advise the Sales and Expansion Managers on layout options
• Suggest new construction companies and supervise ongoing works, checking compliance with time, budget and quality
• Review maintenance activities on site and suggest updates to the Construction Manual
• Inform the Expansion Manager promptly of serious risks and failures in stores and propose solutions

Required profile

• Minimum B.Sc. in Architecture
• 5+ years as an in-house trained architect and project manager on construction sites, with hands-on project costing and construction management
• Knowledge of design policies, international specifications, building regulations and construction details
• Methodical thinking and project management skills; exceptional design and conceptual skills for retail architectural projects
• Must be a resident of Ibadan
