Business Manager, Retail SME

About the role

The Business Manager, Retail SME is responsible for driving growth, profitability and service delivery of the SME portfolio across Nigeria. Reporting to senior leadership, you will manage a team, oversee credit facilities, and ensure the unit meets its loan, deposit and revenue targets while adhering to the Access Way.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute acquisition strategies to expand the SME portfolio.
• Conduct market scans to identify viable SME opportunities and build a strong pipeline of prospects.
• Maintain relationships with key SME clients, both top‑tier and growth accounts.
• Drive customer engagement through physical and digital channels to improve retention and wallet share.
• Review, structure and recommend SME credit facilities; manage the loan portfolio for quality and performance.
• Lead and coach SME Relationship Officers and Account Officers, conducting performance reviews.
• Monitor profitability, cost‑to‑income ratio and cost of risk; prepare weekly/monthly performance reports.
• Contribute to budget planning, collaborate with Risk, Credit, Operations and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• At least a first degree; a Master’s degree or professional qualification is an advantage.
• 6‑8 years of banking experience with strong exposure to SME sales and relationship management.
• Minimum 2 years in a supervisory or team‑lead role.
• Strong understanding of SME products, credit processes and portfolio management.
• Excellent communication, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
