Build Systems Operating Assistant

About the role

Under the supervision of the Lead Operating Engineer, the Build Systems Operating Assistant is responsible for responding to building alarms, handling customer inquiries, maintaining equipment histories, reviewing renovation plans and ensuring contractor compliance. The role also includes performing preventive maintenance on building systems.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to building‑related alarms and determine appropriate next steps.
• Address questions and concerns from staff, patients, visitors and other stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate equipment histories and documentation.
• Review plans and specifications for renovation, repair and construction projects.
• Monitor contractor compliance with plans and specifications.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance on HVAC and other building equipment.
• Document procedures, daily events and system operations.
• Assist with repairs using technical manuals, drawings and service guides.
• Clean, lubricate, adjust and paint mechanical room equipment.
• Work all shifts, days and rotations as required.

Required profile

• Trade school graduate or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 2 years experience with ventilating and air‑conditioning (HVAC) systems, automatic and pneumatic controls (DDC), and building utilities operations.
• Ability to operate test equipment related to building systems.
• Physical ability to stand, walk for long periods, lift heavy objects and use protective equipment.
• Good visual acuity for inspection and repair tasks.
• Willingness to travel to off‑site locations when needed.

Required skills

• HVAC and ventilation system knowledge.
• Automatic & pneumatic control (DDC) operation.
• Reading technical sketches, flow diagrams and performance graphs.
• Preventive maintenance procedures.
• Use of test and diagnostic equipment.
