Biology Expert – Design AI Training Tasks

About the role

Gramian Consultancy is seeking experienced biologists to create high‑quality biology problems that will be used to train and evaluate cutting‑edge AI models. This remote contractor position focuses on designing realistic, exam‑style tasks that are solvable by humans but challenging enough to reveal weaknesses in advanced language models.

Key responsibilities

• Design and curate upper‑undergraduate and graduate‑level biology problems with complete, worked‑out solutions.
• Create challenging, realistic tasks that expose failure modes in frontier AI systems.
• Convert diagram‑heavy or multi‑part questions into self‑contained, text‑only problems with definitive answers.
• Write rigorous explanations and verify scientific accuracy throughout each problem and solution.
• Evaluate AI‑generated responses, diagnose errors, and refine questions to meet difficulty targets.
• Review biology tasks created by others and improve clarity, correctness, and realism.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to maintain consistent standards across large task batches.

Required profile

• Master’s or Ph.D. (or currently pursuing) in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or a related field.
• Strong research and analytical skills.
• Ability to work 8 hours per day with a 4‑hour overlap with PST.
• Contract duration of 2 months with possible extension.

Required skills

• Proficiency in at least three of the following bioinformatics tools: BWA, Bowtie2, GATK, HMMER, HHsuite, STAR, SPAdes, IQ‑TREE, OpenMM, AlphaFold2, PyOpenMS, RELION, PhysiCell, COPASI, Comet, COBRApy, Hifiasm, ABySS, DeepVariant, Flye, OR‑Tools, Bracken, Kraken2, MEGAHIT, antiSMASH, BEAST2, FastTree, DIA‑NN, Percolator, AutoDock Vina, CP2K, Salmon, MethylDackel, Canu, GROMACS.
