Backend/AI Integration Engineer – AI Systems & Intelligent Automation

About the role

The Backend/AI Integration Engineer is a full‑time, on‑site position based in Eti‑Osa, Lagos, Nigeria. You will help build AI‑powered software solutions that automate complex real‑world business processes.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs.
• Integrate Large Language Models, machine‑learning APIs and other AI capabilities into production systems.
• Build reliable data processing and automation pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
• Combine AI outputs with deterministic business rules to ensure consistent system behaviour.
• Implement validation, monitoring, logging and quality‑assurance mechanisms.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers, platform engineers, AI specialists and product stakeholders.

Required profile

• 3+ years of backend development experience building production‑grade systems.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a keen interest in AI and intelligent automation.
• Ability to combine probabilistic AI components with deterministic software logic.
• Self‑motivated, able to work independently and take ownership of features.

Required skills

• TypeScript / Node.js, Python, Java or C#.
• RESTful API design and development.
• Relational databases (SQL) and data transformation.
• Git and automated testing practices.
• Experience with AI/LLM integrations, Machine Learning APIs, document intelligence and OCR.
• Familiarity with workflow automation, rule‑based systems and event‑driven architectures.
• Cloud platforms (especially Microsoft Azure), containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Message queues, distributed systems and microservices architecture.
