Backend AI Engineer – Financial Services Platform

About the role

We are looking for a Backend AI Engineer to join our technology team in Victoria Island, Lagos. You will help build the next generation of our financial services platform, leveraging AI‑assisted coding tools to accelerate development and ensure high‑quality code.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement resilient service layers on top of core banking infrastructure.
• Integrate internal platforms with external third‑party services such as AML, KYC and payment service providers.
• Architect event‑driven, messaging‑based systems (queues, pub/sub) to enable real‑time data flows.
• Utilize AI tools like Claude Code to speed up backend and microservice development.
• Ensure scalability, security and performance for high‑volume transaction processing.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate fintech requirements into maintainable platform capabilities.

Required profile

• 5–9 years of professional backend development experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Master’s preferred).
• Proven experience in fintech, lending, payments or transaction processing.
• Professional proficiency in English and the local language.
• Business management training is a plus.

Required skills

• .NET, Node.js and/or Python.
• Microsoft Azure cloud services.
• APIs, microservices and distributed systems architecture.
• Operational Data Stores, event‑driven architecture and message queuing.
• Document handling, storage and Identity & Access Management.
• Integration with AML, KYC and payment service providers.
• Experience with AI‑assisted coding tools such as Claude Code.
