Automatic Door Technician

About the role

The Automatic Door Technician is responsible for installing, servicing, and repairing a wide range of manual and automatic door systems across various facilities. Working under the supervision of the Senior Director or designee, the technician ensures doors operate safely and comply with relevant codes.

Key responsibilities

• Install, service, and repair manual and automatic door mechanisms, including bi‑fold, swing, revolving, sliding doors, and related hardware.
• Troubleshoot and repair low‑voltage wiring, sensors, and electrical latching devices using multimeters and other testing equipment.
• Repair or replace worn door parts, perform carpentry tasks such as trimming, sanding, shimming, and drilling, and install door frames, rails, steel rolling curtains, and electronic‑eye mechanisms.
• Read blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine proper installation or repair methods.
• Conduct preventive maintenance inspections, document time and materials, and prepare cost estimates.
• Maintain spare‑parts inventory, coordinate purchases with vendors, and use the CMMS to record work orders.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA 101, NFPA 80, life‑safety, healthcare, state, and federal regulations.

Required profile

• Trade school diploma or equivalent experience.
• 3‑5 years of journeyman‑level experience in door or related trades.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to use electronic devices such as an iPad for work orders.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to off‑site locations.

Required skills

• Installation and repair of manual and automatic door systems.
• Low‑voltage electrical troubleshooting and multimeter use.
• Proficiency with hand and power tools, carpentry techniques, and electronic test equipment.
• Reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Knowledge of NFPA 101 and NFPA 80 standards.
• Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
