Area Sales Manager - Lagos

About the role

Portwest, a global manufacturer of safety wear, workwear and PPE founded in 1904, is looking for an Area Sales Manager to cover Lagos, Nigeria, on a contractor basis and report to the Country Manager. The role brings PPE and/or workwear sales experience to sell Portwest products to distributors, opening new and developing existing distribution channels in a fast-paced outside sales position.

Key responsibilities

• Build quality business relationships with new and existing accounts
• Hold daily face-to-face sales meetings with distributors and end users to maintain and develop relationships
• Identify new business opportunities, complete sales planning and use solutions-based strategies to win new business
• Find existing customers with high growth potential and create a roadmap for their development
• Use consultative selling to understand customer needs and provide a Portwest solution
• Prepare clear written proposals and quotations, bring samples to each meeting and follow up after meetings to close sales
• Develop market intelligence through trade shows, seminars and exhibitions, and drive growth in target segments and channels

Required profile

• 3+ years' experience in PPE, workwear, safety wear or industrial product sales
• Previous experience with a PPE manufacturer, distributor, reseller or industrial supplier
• Strong understanding of the Nigerian PPE and industrial safety market
• Experience managing distributor and end-user relationships and conducting regular face-to-face customer meetings
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with regional and local teams
• Must be based in Lagos or willing to relocate; valid driving licence and willingness to travel extensively
• Right to live and work in the relevant jurisdiction
