Account Officer - Internal Controls & Compliance

About the role

This Account Officer role covers internal controls, risk assessment and compliance within financial and management accounting. The holder develops and maintains control frameworks, tests processes and accounts, ensures adherence to accounting standards and regulations such as AML/CFT and tax, and trains staff on internal control best practices.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain internal control frameworks, policies and procedures.
• Conduct regular reviews, spot checks and testing of processes, systems and accounts (e.g. general ledger, bank, vendor) for accuracy and compliance.
• Identify, evaluate and prioritise business and financial risks and design preventive strategies.
• Ensure adherence to internal policies, accounting standards and external regulations such as AML/CFT and tax.
• Prepare detailed reports on audit findings, control deficiencies and corrective actions.
• Train staff on new policies, procedures and internal control best practices.
• Recommend and support corrective measures and process improvements.

Required profile

• B.Sc. or HND in Accounting, Accountancy and Finance.
• Experience in internal audit, control or a similar compliance role.
• Strong understanding of financial and management accounting and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent analytical, communication and reporting skills.
• Professional certification (e.g. ICAN, ACA) is an advantage.
