WASH Assistant

About the role

Hope 360 Aid (HOPE360), a non-profit humanitarian entity founded in 2018, is seeking a WASH Assistant for its Water, Sanitation and Hygiene team in Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria. This is a fixed-term position focused on supporting vulnerable groups and advancing sustainable development, dignity and resilience. The assistant executes, monitors and reports on WASH initiatives in IDP camps, host communities and operational zones, working in line with humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate WASH projects in line with work plans, budgets, technical standards and donor mandates.
• Oversee construction, rehabilitation and upkeep of water systems, sanitation units and handwashing stations, and carry out regular site inspections.
• Coordinate distribution of hygiene kits, water treatment supplies and other approved materials to beneficiaries.
• Lead hygiene promotion workshops on handwashing, safe water handling, waste management and disease prevention, and mobilise communities for sanitation drives.
• Strengthen community WASH committees and collaborate with community leaders, women's groups and youth organisations.
• Assist in data collection through needs assessments, baseline surveys and post-distribution monitoring, and maintain beneficiary records, activity logs and attendance.
• Identify vulnerable groups such as female-headed households and persons with disabilities, document field activities and compile daily, weekly and periodic reports.
• Manage community feedback and complaints, report safeguarding concerns or fraud, and coordinate with the WASH Officer, MEAL team, logistics staff and partners.
• Uphold safeguarding, PSEA, child protection, gender equality and staff conduct policies, and follow security protocols and equipment handling procedures.
