UT Level 2 Technician – Pipe Mill

About the role

The UT Level 2 Technician will perform ultrasonic testing inspections on steel pipes within a pipe‑mill environment, ensuring compliance with international pipeline standards before shipment. The role combines operation of automated ultrasonic testing (AUT) systems with manual scanning to detect internal, surface and subsurface defects.

Key responsibilities

• Set up, calibrate and operate AUT systems integrated into the production line.
• Conduct manual UT scans to verify and map indications identified by automated scanners.
• Calibrate transducers and equipment daily using reference calibration pipes.
• Inspect pipe bodies, weld seams (SAW, LSAW, FCAW) and pipe ends for laminations, cracks, porosity, lack of fusion and wall‑thickness variations.
• Evaluate inspection data against API 5L, ASTM, ASME, ISO 3183 and EN10219 specifications and decide acceptance or rejection.
• Prepare and sign off official UT inspection reports and enter data into the MES/ERP system.
• Provide technical guidance to Level 1 UT operators and support quality engineers during third‑party audits.

Required profile

• Valid UT Level 2 certification (ISO 9712/PCN/CSWIP) and VT Level 2 certification.
• Annual vision test passed (Jaeger 1 and Ishihara).
• 2–3 years experience in a pipe‑manufacturing or heavy‑steel tube mill.
• Strong knowledge of API 5L, EN10219, ISO 10893 and related NDT standards.
• Preferred: Level 2 Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) certification.
