About the role
The Socioeconomic Management & Community Relations Advisor will lead and implement socioeconomic initiatives for Esso Nigeria, shaping community investment, engagement, and social risk management to support long‑term objectives. The role works across internal and external stakeholders to build sustainable partnerships, strengthen the social licence to operate and maximise positive outcomes for host communities.
Key responsibilities
- Design, implement and oversee base and project specific socioeconomic management programs, investments and strategic initiatives, including monitoring third‑party contractors.
- Provide end‑to‑end oversight of Esso Nigeria’s Host Community Trust multi‑year commitments, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities and national development goals.
- Align socioeconomic spend with external giving strategies to support corporate reputation and national development.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders to build trust, share information and manage social risks.
- Oversee grievance management processes, capture issues from community liaison activities and ensure timely resolution.
- Support internal planning, stewardship metrics and reporting to track performance of community investments.
- Maintain a robust controls environment for socioeconomic management activities and evaluate investment impact.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Development Studies, Public Policy, International Development, Social Sciences or related fields (Master’s preferred).
- Nigerian citizenship with a valid NYSC discharge certificate or exemption letter.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in community investment, socioeconomic management, social performance or related disciplines, preferably within oil & gas, energy, NGOs or development finance institutions.
- Proven track record designing and implementing community development or socioeconomic empowerment programmes and managing social risk.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships in Nigeria and to work in multinational energy environments.
