Social Worker – Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG)

About the role

The VAWG Social Worker will lead psycho‑social support (PSS) activities, raise awareness, and supervise outreach volunteers within International Medical Corps' Violence Against Women and Girls program in Abuja. The role focuses on safe spaces, community centers, and primary health care facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Promote IMC’s integrated VAWG services to institutions, PHCs and individuals.
• Plan and conduct PSS sessions for beneficiaries at safe spaces, health centers and community venues.
• Identify and organise awareness‑raising opportunities, including focus group discussions.
• Conduct community‑level safety audits and engage men and boys in gender‑equitable activities.
• Maintain and update service mapping of local providers for caseworkers.
• Ensure safe identification and referral of VAWG survivors to case managers.
• Monitor, support and follow up the work of outreach volunteers.
• Prepare and submit quantitative and qualitative monthly reports, incident reports and meeting minutes.
• Attend trainings and meetings as coordinated with the VAWG Program Officer or Manager.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience in social work or humanitarian settings.
• Strong empathy and respect for the communities served.
• Commitment to advancing women’s rights and resilience.
• Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Facilitation and influencing abilities.
