Senior Mobile Engineer

About the role

Chowdeck is building three mobile applications – a customer app, a vendor app and a rider app – that power on‑demand delivery across Africa. As a Senior Mobile Engineer you will design, develop, and maintain high‑quality features for these React Native apps, ensuring smooth, native‑like experiences on both iOS and Android.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain features across one or more of the three mobile apps.
• Translate prototypes and wireframes into pixel‑perfect UI components.
• Implement native integrations using XCode, Gradle, and Fastlane when deep platform access is required.
• Continuously improve front‑end performance and eliminate bottlenecks.
• Diagnose and fix bugs, ensuring apps feel as native as possible.
• Write automated tests and maintain high code quality.
• Collaborate with engineers across the company to deliver large‑scale features.
• Help raise engineering standards, tooling, and processes.

Required profile

• Motivated to improve the lives of restaurants, riders, and customers.
• Significant experience building production‑grade mobile apps; leadership experience is a plus.
• Strong grasp of JavaScript and React Native nuances.
• Familiarity with native build tools (XCode, Gradle) and CI/CD pipelines (Fastlane).
• Fundamental knowledge of Node.js, JavaScript, and MySQL.
• Ability to create delightful animations where needed.
• Experience with automated mobile testing suites.
• Commitment to speed, performance, and high‑quality design.
• Excellent communication with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Deep focus on customer satisfaction.
