Senior Legal Associate – Fintech/Payments

About the role

Our client, a technology company delivering payment solutions across Africa, is seeking a Senior Legal Associate to join its Legal team. You will ensure that products and business operations comply with relevant laws, regulations and best practices, while supporting multiple functions such as fraud, HR, finance and product.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements including merchant, partner, NDA and vendor contracts.
• Maintain contract templates, clause libraries and audit‑ready repositories.
• Lead corporate governance activities, manage board calendars, draft resolutions and record minutes.
• Support litigation and dispute matters, coordinate with external counsel and conduct early risk assessments.
• Oversee IP management, trademark registrations and respond to infringements.
• Develop dashboards on contract volume, legal spend and risk exposure and provide insights to leadership.
• Design and improve legal workflows, intake processes and contract lifecycle management systems.

Required profile

• Law degree with at least 7 years of relevant experience, preferably in financial services.
• Strong contract drafting, negotiation and interpretation abilities.
• Excellent stakeholder management and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and exercise sound judgment in a fast‑growth environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience using legal technology tools such as CLM systems and workflow automation platforms.
