Senior Legal Associate (Fintech/Payments)

About the role

The Senior Legal Associate will join a fast‑growing fintech company that provides payment solutions across Africa. Reporting to the Head of Legal, you will ensure that products, contracts and business operations comply with relevant laws, regulations and best practices while driving efficient legal processes.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements such as merchant, partner, NDA and vendor contracts.
• Develop and maintain contract templates, clause libraries and playbooks to improve consistency.
• Lead corporate governance activities, manage board calendars, draft resolutions and keep accurate minutes.
• Support litigation and dispute matters, coordinating with external counsel and monitoring risk.
• Oversee entity management, trademark and IP registrations, and respond to potential infringements.
• Produce dashboards and reports on contract volume, legal spend, litigation exposure and provide strategic insights.
• Design, implement and continuously improve legal workflows, intake processes and CLM systems.
• Manage relationships with external counsel, service providers and respond to auditor, regulator and partner requests.

Required profile

• Law degree with at least 7 years of relevant experience.
• Prior experience in financial services or fintech is a strong asset.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, stakeholder management and project‑management skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively across fraud, HR, finance, sales, product, engineering and customer support teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience using legal technology tools such as contract lifecycle management (CLM) systems.
• Familiarity with workflow automation platforms.
