Safety Specialist – Manufacturing

About the role

The Safety Specialist reports to the Plant Safety Manager and provides real‑time shift‑level supervision across multiple Coca‑Cola HBC facilities in Nigeria. The role ensures strict adherence to safety protocols, investigates incidents, and guarantees daily operations comply with federal and state regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor factory floors, material cavities, and loading docks to ensure compliance with fleet safety requirements.
• Inspect high‑risk equipment such as hydraulic presses, balers, and conveyors for proper fencing and safety guards.
• Audit and enforce proper use of PPE, including steel‑toe boots, hard hats, and goggles.
• Conduct Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) audits and verify compliance with Permit‑to‑Work (PTW) frameworks.
• Lead daily safety briefings, shift‑starter updates, and act as chief floor warden during emergencies.
• Perform weekly tests of eye‑wash stations, fire exits, and first‑aid kits.
• Drive root‑cause analysis for minor injuries or equipment faults and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain accident and inspection records in line with the Nigeria Factories Act.

Required profile

• B.Sc. or HND in Engineering, Sciences, or a related field.
• Member of the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON) and HSE Level 3 certification (or equivalent).
• 1–3 years of hands‑on safety marshalling experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Proven experience working around moving machinery, high‑voltage systems, or forklift traffic.
• Ability to conduct floor walkthroughs using physical or digital safety checklists.
