Protection of Family Links Field Officer 2 (Nigeria)

About the role

The ICRC's Protection of Family Links Field Officer 2 supports the implementation and monitoring of the ICRC's restoring family links (PFL) activities in Nigeria. The officer ensures that visitors and callers leave with a positive impression of the ICRC and that its needs are understood and met. The post reports to the Protection of Family Links Field Officer 3.

Key responsibilities

• Provide information on missing persons' files and present a synthesis of problems
• Advise on culture, politics and the general situation, and monitor government policies and guidelines on missing persons in Nigeria
• Carry out media monitoring on the issue of missing persons in Nigeria
• Review PFL cases and recommend tagging to the data team, making basic database changes during case review
• Interpret between Hausa and English during meetings with families of the missing
• Receive and respond to visits and phone enquiries from beneficiaries, and file Red Cross messages received from sub-delegations and abroad
• Support family reunifications in the Lake Chad region, draft donation and handover certificates, and follow up diplomatic pouch correspondence with the protection assistant
• Raise supply requests for field activities, training, workshops and conferences, and stay in contact with PFL colleagues in sub-structures

Required profile

• University degree in social work or social sciences
• 3 years of work experience in a similar field
• Good knowledge of written and spoken English and Hausa (another local language is an asset)
• Valid working permit to work in Nigeria
• Knowledge of local cultural aspects and the geographically assigned area
• Strong motivation for humanitarian work, ability to work under pressure and good analytical skills

Required skills

• Good computer skills, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint
