Senior Social Protection Specialist (Senior Economist)

About the role

The World Bank Group is recruiting a Senior Social Protection Specialist (Senior Economist) for its Social Policy (SP) Global Practice in Nigeria, based in Abuja. The position is open-ended staff, local recruitment, and reports to the Social Policy team. The Social Policy practice helps individuals and families manage risk, cope with chronic or transitional poverty and access better livelihoods and jobs, through cash transfers, public works, fee waivers, contributory transfers and labour market programmes.

The Social Policy portfolio in Nigeria includes several IDA-funded operations: the NASSP-SU project expanding shock-responsive safety nets, the NG-CARES programme of multisectoral interventions, the Nigeria for Women Program Scale-Up, and advisory and analytics work on social protection systems.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to and lead policy dialogue on the Government of Nigeria's social protection and labour agenda.
• Support operational and advisory tasks within the Social Policy practice, combining team leadership, technical assistance and analytical work.
• Apply hands-on, international best-practice experience to Nigeria's social protection systems.
• Coordinate closely with the Government, development partners and other stakeholders.
