Protection of Family Links Field Officer 2

About the role

The ICRC's Protection of Family Links (PFL) programme works to restore family links between separated relatives, locate missing persons and help families reunite. The Protection of Family Links Field Officer 2 supports the implementation and monitoring of these activities in Nigeria, ensuring that visitors and callers leave with a positive impression of the ICRC and that its needs are understood and met.

Key responsibilities

• Provide information on the file of missing persons and present a synthesis of problems.
• Advise on culture, politics and the general situation, and monitor government policies and guidelines on missing persons in Nigeria.
• Carry out media monitoring on the issue of missing persons in Nigeria.
• Review PFL cases and recommend tagging to the data team, making basic changes to the database during case review.
• Interpret accurately between Hausa and English during meetings with families of the missing.
• Receive visits and phone enquiries from beneficiaries, respond to them and forward the information to the relevant team.
• File Red Cross messages opened and received from sub-delegations and abroad.
• Support family reunifications in the Lake Chad region, draft donation and handover certificates, and follow up correspondence and diplomatic pouches with the protection assistant.
• Raise supply requests for field activities, training courses, workshops and conferences, and stay in contact with PFL colleagues in sub-structures.

Required profile

• University degree in social work or social sciences.
• 3 years of work experience in a similar field.
• Good knowledge of written and spoken English and Hausa; other local languages are an asset.
• Good knowledge of local cultural aspects and the assigned geographic area.
• Valid working permit to work in Nigeria.
• Strong motivation for humanitarian work, ability to work under pressure and good analytical skills.

Required skills

• Good computer skills, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
