Protection Coordinator (Internal)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking an experienced Protection Coordinator to lead internal protection efforts in Nigeria. The role focuses on child protection, women’s protection and empowerment, and protection & rule of law, ensuring safety and dignity for populations affected by conflict and displacement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction, technical and managerial support to protection programming across Nigeria.
• Develop and grow the protection portfolio through concept notes, donor proposals, and integrated planning with health, education, and economic recovery sectors.
• Lead assessments, research, and evidence‑generation to inform protection interventions and advocacy.
• Build and coach a high‑performing protection team, fostering staff capacity and cross‑functional collaboration.
• Ensure the Safety Outcome Strategy is implemented with quality data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Required profile

• Proven people‑manager and coaching experience in complex humanitarian settings.
• Strategic vision for protection programming and ability to translate operational needs into competitive donor proposals.
• Comfort working across diverse, multicultural teams and navigating challenging environments.
