About the role

LEGAL KNOWLEDGE ACADEMY is a legal-tech organization delivering accessible, practice-driven legal education and integrated legal services across Africa. It is looking for a President, a volunteer, remote role providing strategic leadership and overall governance. The President ensures the organization's mission and goals are defined, communicated and executed.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee strategic planning, approve major initiatives and guide the development of legal education programs, career pathways and service offerings.
• Chair key meetings and collaborate with board members and functional leads.
• Build partnerships with academic institutions and legal service providers.
• Represent the organization in public and stakeholder engagements.
• Monitor organizational performance and support fundraising and resource mobilization.
• Foster a culture of ethical practice, innovation and inclusion across all operations.

Required profile

• Strong leadership and governance skills, with experience overseeing strategy, decision-making and stakeholder engagement in nonprofit, educational or professional organizations.
• Background in law, legal education or legal-tech, with a solid understanding of African legal systems and access-to-justice challenges.
• Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans, manage cross-functional initiatives and align teams around mission-driven objectives.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills, including representing the organization to partners, donors and the public.
• Experience with remote collaboration, digital tools and technology-enabled education or services.
• Commitment to accessible legal education, ethical practice, inclusion and the empowerment of diverse communities across Africa.
• Prior experience in senior leadership or board-level roles is highly beneficial; advanced degrees in Law, Public Policy, Business or related fields are an advantage.
