Power Plant Operator – Wärtsilä Gas Engines

About the role
Ascentech is seeking a skilled Power Plant Operator to run and monitor Wärtsilä gas engines and associated equipment at its facility in Abeokuta, Nigeria.
Key responsibilities
- Operate, start‑up, shut‑down and synchronise Wärtsilä gas engines safely and efficiently.
- Monitor and manage low‑tension/high‑tension water circuits of the engines.
- Conduct routine checks, track engine performance and report any abnormalities.
- Support and perform engine maintenance activities in line with operational requirements.
- Maintain accurate operating records and ensure compliance with plant safety procedures.
Required profile
- HND in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in a power plant, FMCG or manufacturing environment.
- Hands‑on experience operating Wärtsilä gas engines.
- Practical knowledge of engine shutdown and synchronisation procedures.
- Immediate availability.
Required skills
- Operation of Wärtsilä gas engines.
- Understanding of LT/HT water circuit operation.
- Engine performance monitoring and fault detection.
- Troubleshooting and problem‑solving in power plant settings.
