Legal Associate – Widows, Fatherless & Orphans Program

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Legal Associate to support the Widows, Fatherless and Orphans social protection programme. The role is based in Abuja and involves providing legal advice, managing beneficiary data, and assisting with programme administration.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to widows’ legal requests promptly and professionally.
• Maintain and update the WINGS widows database and ensure accurate enrolment.
• Coordinate periodic WINGS meetings, handle logistics and raise memos for administrative expenses.
• Assist with bookkeeping of donor funds, cash inflows and disbursements to beneficiaries.
• Provide in‑house legal advisory services, risk mitigation and compliance support.
• Manage the widows litigation portfolio, liaise with external solicitors and draft legal submissions.
• Conduct legal research, risk analyses and develop strategies to protect widows’ interests.

Required profile

• LLB (or equivalent) with at least second class upper (2.1) honours.
• 1‑2 years of experience in a private law firm or legal practice, preferably with social work exposure.
• Strong analytical, research and report‑writing abilities.
• Willingness to work long hours and weekends for home visits in the FCT.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
