Internal Auditor – Banking & Finance

About the role

We are looking for an Internal Auditor to conduct regular internal audits across financial, operational, administrative, and credit activities. The role involves reviewing transactions, evaluating internal controls, and providing independent recommendations to strengthen the organization’s risk management.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regular internal audits of financial, operational, administrative, and credit activities.
• Review financial transactions, expenses, payments, reconciliations and supporting documentation for accuracy and proper authorization.
• Audit loan disbursement, repayment, collection and recovery processes to ensure compliance with procedures.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, identify gaps, risks and potential financial loss.
• Verify compliance with company policies, approval limits and regulatory requirements.
• Perform periodic and surprise audits of operations and field activities.
• Investigate discrepancies, unusual transactions, control breaches and potential fraud.
• Prepare clear audit reports with findings, risks and corrective recommendations.
• Follow up on previous audit findings and monitor implementation of corrective actions.
• Review company assets, inventory and resources to ensure proper accountability.
• Collaborate with Finance, Credit, Recovery, Sales, HR/Admin and other departments to strengthen controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s Degree/HND with 2–4 years of relevant experience in audit, accounting, risk or compliance.
• Professional certification such as ICAN, ACCA, CIA or ACA (preferred).
• Experience in banking, micro‑finance, lending or financial services is an advantage.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving abilities and high level of integrity.
