Head of Human Resource

About the role

The Head of Human Resource will lead the HR function for a bank, aligning people strategy with corporate goals. This senior position reports to executive management and oversees all aspects of talent acquisition, development, and employee experience.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the bank’s HR strategy in line with business objectives.
• Oversee recruitment, onboarding, workforce planning and talent retention.
• Design and maintain HR policies, employee handbooks and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Manage performance management, succession planning, career development and talent management programmes.
• Identify training needs and coordinate learning and development initiatives.
• Drive employee engagement and foster a high‑performance culture.
• Administer compensation, benefits, payroll and staff welfare programmes.
• Ensure compliance with Nigerian Labour Laws, CBN guidelines and other employment regulations.
• Advise senior management on employee relations, disciplinary actions, grievance handling and organisational restructuring.
• Maintain accurate HR metrics, records and periodic management reports.
• Supervise, mentor and develop the HR team.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, Psychology or related field.
• MCIB certification; CIPM membership or MCIPM/ACIPM is an advantage.
• Minimum 10 years of HR experience in banking or financial services, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
• Strong knowledge of Nigerian Labour Laws and HR best practices.
• High integrity, professionalism and ability to handle confidential information.
