Head of Finance

About the role

We are seeking a strategic Head of Finance to lead the finance function of a bank in Lagos. The role will drive financial planning, reporting, treasury and regulatory compliance, supporting senior management and the board.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the Finance Department and ensure effective financial management across the organization.
• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and regulatory standards.
• Coordinate the annual budgeting process, financial forecasts and long‑term financial plans.
• Produce management accounts, performance reports and executive dashboards for decision‑making.
• Oversee treasury operations, cash‑flow management, liquidity planning and investment activities.
• Ensure timely submission of statutory returns to CBN, NDIC, FIRS and other regulators.
• Develop and maintain robust financial controls to safeguard assets.
• Monitor income, expenditure, profitability, capital adequacy and recommend corrective actions.
• Coordinate internal and external audits and implement audit recommendations.
• Ensure compliance with tax laws, accounting standards and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Provide financial analysis for strategic initiatives, new products and business expansion.
• Collaborate with Operations, Credit, Risk, Internal Audit and IT to strengthen financial governance.
• Supervise, mentor and develop finance team members.
• Advise executive management and the Board on financial risks and growth opportunities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field.
• ACA (ICAN) or ACCA qualification, MCIB certification.
• Minimum 5 years post‑qualification experience, at least 4 years in financial services and 2 years in a management or supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS, banking regulations and CBN competency requirements for Key Management Staff.
