Head of Engineering, Payment Gateway

About the role

Monnify, Moniepoint’s online payment acceptance platform, is scaling internationally and adding multi‑currency support. As Head of Engineering for the Payment Gateway you will define the technical direction, architecture and roadmap for the platform, ensuring reliability, security and an excellent developer experience.

Key responsibilities

• Own the full technical strategy, architecture and roadmap for the Monnify platform across all capability areas.
• Lead multiple engineering teams through engineering managers, set quality standards and build organisational capability.
• Drive the developer experience end‑to‑end, including APIs, documentation, SDKs and integration ease.
• Guide platform evolution towards multi‑currency and international scalability.
• Ensure platform reliability, scalability and security within a regulated environment.
• Partner with product, commercial and operations teams to align technical investments with business goals.
• Hire, mentor and develop engineering managers and senior engineers to support growth.

Required profile

• Over 10 years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in engineering leadership.
• 5+ years of hands‑on production‑level Java development.
• At least 5 years managing managers and leading multiple engineering teams.
• Experience in payments, fintech or financial services with knowledge of payment flows and compliance.
• Strong backend engineering skills in high‑throughput, distributed transactional systems.
