Head of Credit and Recovery

About the role

The Head of Credit and Recovery will lead the credit function of the bank, shaping policy, overseeing loan underwriting, and driving recovery of delinquent accounts. Reporting to senior management, this role ensures credit quality while supporting sustainable loan growth.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and review the bank’s credit policy, lending procedures and administration framework.
• Lead appraisal, evaluation, recommendation and monitoring of credit facilities in line with risk appetite.
• Ensure proper underwriting, documentation, disbursement and post‑disbursement monitoring of all loans.
• Monitor loan portfolio quality, minimise non‑performing loans and design recovery strategies.
• Review credit proposals and present recommendations to Credit Committees.
• Conduct periodic portfolio reviews and ensure compliance with Prudential Guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with Marketing and Business Development to drive quality loan growth.
• Prepare credit performance reports, portfolio analysis and management information for executives and the board.
• Mentor and supervise credit department staff and promote process automation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Banking & Finance, Economics, Business Administration or related field.
• Mandatory MCIB certification.
• Minimum 10 years of banking experience, with at least 3 years in credit administration, risk management or lending.
• Strong knowledge of CBN Prudential Guidelines, AML/CFT, KYC and micro‑finance regulations.
