Head of Coal Mines Operations

About the role

The Head of Coal Mines Operations will provide strategic, operational and technical leadership for all coal mining activities, ensuring safe, efficient and cost‑effective production while meeting regulatory and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the overall mining operations strategy aligned with corporate objectives.
• Lead short‑, medium‑ and long‑term mine planning, production scheduling and expansion opportunities.
• Oversee end‑to‑end mining activities including drilling, blasting, excavation, hauling and coal processing.
• Promote a zero‑harm safety culture and ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and mining regulations.
• Manage OPEX and CAPEX budgets, monitor cost per tonne and drive profitability through cost control.
• Maintain regulatory compliance, engage with government agencies and ensure audit readiness.
• Build strong relationships with host communities, oversee CSR initiatives and sustainable development practices.
• Lead, develop and retain a high‑performing team of mine managers, engineers and supervisors.
• Drive adoption of automation, digital monitoring, fleet management systems and data analytics to improve efficiency.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in coal or mineral mining operations, preferably at a senior leadership level.
• Proven track record in strategic planning, cost optimisation and production management.
• Strong understanding of HSE regulations and environmental compliance.
• Demonstrated ability to lead large multidisciplinary teams and manage stakeholder relations.
