Grants and Compliance Officer

About the role

GAIN is looking for a Grants and Compliance Officer to manage grant documentation, donor reporting and compliance monitoring across its projects in Abuja. The role will support contract review, capacity‑building for staff and partners, and ensure adherence to donor and statutory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, review and finalise grant agreements, sub‑awards and contract modifications.
• Maintain an up‑to‑date grants database, contract tracker and documentation system.
• Monitor grant deliverables, reporting timelines and compliance obligations.
• Prepare and submit high‑quality financial and narrative donor reports in collaboration with programme and finance teams.
• Track grant budgets, spending patterns and variances, flagging issues promptly.
• Conduct regular compliance reviews of financial and programme documentation and support internal audits.
• Identify compliance gaps, recommend corrective actions and support internal control systems.
• Assist in due‑diligence assessments of potential partners and train partners on donor rules and reporting requirements.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing donor‑funded programmes, preferably within international organisations or community‑based NGOs.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to think strategically and exercise sound judgement.
• Experience with major donors such as Mastercard Foundation, European Commission, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation or FCDO is an advantage.
• Ability to identify risks, communicate issues effectively and propose practical solutions to strengthen compliance.
