Editor in Chief - Oil & Gas Communications

About the role

Kenex Konsults International is looking for an Editor in Chief based in Lagos, Nigeria, to lead its editorial function. The role develops and implements the editorial strategy in line with corporate objectives and communication goals, covering digital and print content for the oil and gas sector.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee planning, writing, editing, proofreading and publication of editorial content across digital and print platforms.
• Supervise writers, journalists, editors, content creators and other editorial team members.
• Review and approve articles, industry reports, newsletters, press releases, interviews and corporate publications before release.
• Ensure content is accurate, clear, consistent, professional and relevant to the oil and gas sector.
• Research and monitor developments in the oil and gas industry, including exploration, production, refining, energy transition, regulation and market trends.
• Establish editorial guidelines, writing standards, publication schedules and quality-control procedures.
• Coordinate interviews with industry executives, technical professionals and regulators; develop editorial calendars and manage content timelines.
• Work with PR, communications, marketing and technical teams, and ensure compliance with laws, confidentiality, copyright and company policies.
• Verify facts, statistics, quotations and technical information; identify editorial opportunities; monitor readership and content performance.
• Manage editorial budgets, resources and external contributors, and handle corrections and reputational risks.
• Represent the editorial department in management meetings and report on publication activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, English, Public Relations, Communications or a related field.
• Proven editorial, journalism, publishing or corporate communications experience, preferably in the oil and gas or energy sector.
• Previous senior editorial or editorial management experience is an advantage.
• Leadership experience managing writers, editors and content production teams.

• Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, research and fact-checking skills.
• Strong understanding of oil and gas operations, terminology, business developments and regulations.
• Proficiency in digital publishing platforms, content management systems and editorial tools.
• Knowledge of SEO, digital content strategy and online audience engagement.
• Ability to interpret technical information and communicate it clearly to specialist and general audiences.
