Design Engineer – Fire Protection Systems

About the role

NAFFCO Future Concerns Fire Systems is seeking a Design Engineer to create compliant, practical, and buildable fire‑fighting, fire‑alarm, and life‑safety system designs. You will manage the full design lifecycle from tender stage through to as‑built documentation and support installation, testing and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Design fire‑fighting systems (sprinklers, hydrants, hose reels, fire pumps, deluge, foam, clean‑agent) and perform hydraulic, pump‑sizing and storage calculations.
• Design fire‑alarm, detection, public‑address/voice‑evacuation, emergency lighting and exit‑signage systems, including device layouts, cause‑and‑effect matrices and battery calculations.
• Prepare design basis reports, shop drawings, schematics and BIM/Revit models, ensuring coordination with other MEP services.
• Compile material submittals with required datasheets and certificates and support the estimation team with quantity take‑offs.
• Review client and consultant comments, respond to RFIs, revise drawings per document‑control procedures, and assist during site installation, testing and commissioning.

Required profile

• Graduate in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3–5 years of design experience in fire‑fighting, fire‑alarm and life‑safety systems.
• Working knowledge of NFPA 13, 14, 20, 72 and 101 (BS 5839, BS 5266, EN 54 are a plus).
• Strong ability to interpret project specifications and produce accurate, well‑coordinated documentation within deadlines.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Experience with hydraulic calculation software.
• Knowledge of BIM/Revit (preferred).
