About the role

The Deputy Vice Chancellor/Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs serves as the Chief Academic Officer of the American University of Nigeria. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor/President, this senior leader provides strategic and executive leadership for all academic affairs, ensuring alignment with the university’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for academic planning, curriculum development, faculty governance, teaching and learning, research, and quality assurance.
• Oversee academic operations, policies, programs, personnel, and resources across the academic division.
• Advise senior leadership on academic policy, standards, faculty affairs, and institutional development.
• Lead the development, review, implementation, and continuous improvement of academic programs and curricula.
• Promote innovative teaching, learning technologies, and student success initiatives.
• Support recruitment, retention, and development of high‑quality faculty and staff.
• Provide leadership for research, scholarship, interdisciplinary collaboration, and external grant engagement.
• Ensure compliance with accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, and quality‑assurance frameworks.
• Formulate, interpret, and implement academic policies aligned with institutional values and best practices.
• Develop and manage the academic division’s budget, monitor expenditures, and optimize resource allocation.
