Deputy Project Director

About the role

CDL is seeking a Deputy Project Director to support the Project Director in delivering large‑scale design‑and‑build developments in Lagos. The role will act as the right‑hand to the Project Director, ensuring seamless coordination across all project workstreams and maintaining project momentum.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Project Director across all project workstreams and deputise fully in their absence.
• Lead the management and coordination of external consultants (structural, MEP, planning, quantity surveying, specialist) to ensure delivery on programme and scope.
• Own and maintain the project risk register, proactively identifying, assessing and reporting risks.
• Coordinate design packages between the Design & Architectural Manager and the Construction Manager to align with the construction programme.
• Manage formal communications with consultants and third parties, including letters and contract notices.
• Chair consultant coordination meetings when the Project Director is unavailable.
• Assist in preparing client reports, presentations and change‑order submissions.
• Monitor the overall project programme against milestones and flag emerging delays.
• Oversee the statutory approvals programme, tracking submissions and decision dates.
• Lead project close‑out, including as‑built documentation and lessons‑learned review.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Quantity Surveying or Construction Management (post‑graduate qualification is an advantage).
• Minimum 10 years of experience in construction or real‑estate development, with at least 6 years in a senior project management role.
• Strong experience delivering design‑and‑build projects in Nigeria.
• Familiarity with Lagos State planning and building control processes.
• Proven ability to manage multi‑disciplinary design consultant teams.
• Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., NSE, NIOB, NIQS, NIA) is a plus.
