Deputy Pharmacist – Quality & HSE Oversight

About the role

The Deputy Pharmacist will lead quality and HSE oversight for a pharmaceutical distribution centre, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and internal SOPs. This role combines operational management, customer service, and risk mitigation to maintain product integrity throughout receipt, storage, and dispatch.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and renew the annual premises licence for the pharmacy warehouse.
• Ensure all staff comply with Good Warehouse Practice (GWP), Good Storage Practice (GSP) and client SOPs.
• Drive a quality culture across receipt, storage, dispatch and distribution activities.
• Prepare and submit monthly operational reports and security system reports.
• Monitor service level agreements and evaluate third‑party service provider performance.
• Lead internal and client audits, and respond to regulatory enquiries.
• Resolve quality complaints within 24 hours and escalate when necessary.
• Manage product storage conditions, batch and shelf‑life accuracy, and controlled‑drug records.
• Oversee handling of damaged, expired and NAFDAC‑hold products.
• Maintain and service DC assets such as security systems, cooling units, generators and material handling equipment.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis of deviations and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

Required profile

• Experience in pharmaceutical distribution centre operations.
• Familiarity with GWP, GSP and regulatory frameworks such as NAFDAC.
• Strong understanding of HSE principles and audit processes.
• Ability to manage quality complaints and customer service issues promptly.
