Database Administrator – Oracle & PostgreSQL Expert

About the role

The organization is looking for a senior, hands‑on Database Administrator to design, implement, secure and support mission‑critical Oracle and PostgreSQL environments. The role will act as the technical authority for database architecture, performance, high availability, disaster recovery and security across production, test and development estates.

Key responsibilities

• Administer, tune and support enterprise Oracle (11g‑21c) and PostgreSQL (12‑16) databases across production, DR, UAT and development environments.
• Design and implement high‑availability and disaster‑recovery solutions such as Oracle RAC, Data Guard and PostgreSQL streaming or logical replication.
• Lead performance tuning, capacity planning, SQL/query optimisation and workload management.
• Own backup, recovery and business‑continuity processes (RMAN, pg_dump, pg_basebackup, WAL archiving, barman/pgBackRest) and ensure RTO/RPO compliance.
• Plan and execute upgrades, patching, migrations and platform consolidations with minimal downtime.
• Implement security controls including user/role management, encryption (TDE, SSL/TLS), auditing and regulatory compliance.
• Automate routine DBA tasks using Shell, Python, PL/SQL and PL/pgSQL scripts and monitoring tools.
• Mentor junior DBAs and serve as escalation point for application and infrastructure teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 8 years of progressive DBA experience, with at least 4 years on Oracle and 4 years on PostgreSQL in enterprise production environments.
• Proven expertise in Oracle RAC, ASM, Data Guard, RMAN and performance tuning (AWR/ADDM).
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL replication, connection pooling (PgBouncer/pgpool‑II) and performance tuning.
• Solid Linux/Unix administration skills (AIX, RHEL) related to database operations.
• Experience with database security hardening, encryption, auditing and compliance (PCI‑DSS, data protection regulations).
• Background in banking or other highly regulated industries is strongly preferred.
