Chief Operating Officer (COO) – Construction

About the role

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will lead day‑to‑day operations of a construction, chemical manufacturing and distribution firm in Lagos. Reporting to the CEO, the COO translates strategic objectives into operational plans, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead construction operations, site management, procurement, logistics and project delivery teams, coordinating with engineering, finance, HR and supply chain.
• Oversee planning and execution of multiple projects, monitor KPIs, cost, productivity and resolve site or contractor issues promptly.
• Develop and manage operational budgets with the CEO and Finance team, driving cost efficiency while maintaining safety and quality.
• Enforce health, safety, environmental and regulatory compliance across all sites.
• Drive process improvements and operational systems to boost productivity and reduce waste.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, architecture, quantity surveying or related field; master’s degree (MBA, MSc) is a plus.
• 10–15 years progressive experience in construction, with 4–6 years in a senior operational or leadership role such as Operations Manager, Project Director or Deputy COO.
• Proven track record managing multiple construction projects and large operational teams.
