Associate - Corporate, Commercial and Dispute Resolution

About the role

Calmhill Partners is a full-service commercial and dispute resolution law firm based in Lagos, Nigeria, covering corporate, commercial, litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution matters. The Associate position is full-time and on-site in Lagos, supporting partners and senior lawyers across the firm's practice areas.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and review legal documents, and prepare opinions and advisory notes for clients.
• Conduct legal research and assist with case preparation for litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution.
• Attend client meetings and liaise with regulatory authorities and courts as required.
• Help manage transaction workflows and contribute to due diligence exercises.
• Support corporate and commercial matters such as contract review, company secretarial work and compliance documentation.
• Stay current with developments in Nigerian law and relevant international standards.

Required profile

• Law degree (LL.B or equivalent) and admission to practice in Nigeria; prior law firm or in-house experience is an advantage.
• Experience or interest in one or more of the firm's practice areas, such as corporate and commercial law, litigation and arbitration, real estate, energy, finance, intellectual property or taxation.
• Strong legal research and analytical skills, and proficiency in drafting and reviewing contracts, pleadings, opinions and advisory notes.
• Effective communication and advocacy skills, with clear written work and confident oral presentation.
• Good organisational and time-management abilities, able to handle multiple matters and meet deadlines.
• High level of integrity, professional ethics and attention to detail.
