Adjunct Instructor - Undergraduate Courses

About the role

The University of the People, a non-profit, tuition-free, accredited online university, is looking for Adjunct Instructors to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in History and Art History, Economics, Political Science, Law and Sociology. The work is fully remote and online, with a weekly commitment of about 15 hours to course-related activities.

Key responsibilities

• Devote approximately 15 hours per course per week to course-related activities.
• Respond to student emails and messages and engage with students in discussion forums.
• Grade assignments and discussion forum posts.
• Maintain an instructor presence with frequent check-ins and responsiveness to students.
• Teach the course subject matter so that every student can master the learning outcomes.
• Monitor course grades and finalize them by the deadlines.
• Check regularly with Academic Affairs and/or the Office of Academic Operations on any course issues.
• Represent a diverse student population across cultural, political, socio-economic and religious backgrounds.

Required profile

• Expertise in the subject area of the course.
• A master's degree in the discipline; a doctorate is preferred.
• Fluency in English.
• Ability to teach in an online environment and understand the needs of a very diverse student population.

Required skills

• Online teaching experience is preferred but not required.

What we offer

• Compensation of $250 for one course and $500 for two courses at undergraduate level.
