Accountant - Restaurant & Retail Operations

About the role

An experienced Accountant with a strong background in restaurant or grocery/retail operations is sought to manage the company's financial activities and support day-to-day operations. The role covers financial reporting, daily sales reconciliation, payroll and internal audits, and works closely with operations to monitor inventory, cost of goods sold (COGS) and profitability. It suits someone comfortable in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, including profit and loss statements and balance sheets.
• Reconcile daily sales from POS systems across cash, card and transfer transactions.
• Monitor revenue streams from restaurant and retail operations and ensure record accuracy.
• Conduct internal audits on cash handling, inventory and operational processes.
• Track and analyse inventory movement, COGS, wastage and variances; support stock counts and accurate inventory valuation.
• Prepare and process monthly payroll, including statutory deductions such as PAYE and pension.
• Manage supplier invoices, payments and account reconciliations.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and cost control, and help operations teams find financial leakages and cost-saving opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• At least 2-3 years of accounting experience in restaurant, supermarket or retail environments.
• Hands-on experience in high-volume, cash-driven business operations.
• Strong understanding of inventory accounting, POS reconciliation and cost control systems.
• ICAN (or in view) is a strong advantage; other accounting certifications are a plus.
