Accountant – Finance & Corporate Services

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑oriented and proactive Accountant to support the financial operations of Metropolitan Electric. Reporting to the Head of Corporate Finance, you will maintain accurate records, ensure statutory compliance and provide reliable financial information for strategic decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day accounting operations including journals, invoices, payments, accruals, pre‑payments and general ledger maintenance.
• Execute month‑end and year‑end close activities, prepare reconciliations and support management reporting.
• Maintain bank, supplier, customer, employee, intercompany and control account reconciliations while monitoring receivables and payables.
• Support VAT, PAYE, withholding tax filings, external audits and regulatory compliance.
• Maintain fixed‑asset registers and account for operational assets such as electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, batteries and spare parts.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash‑flow planning, financial analysis and corporate finance initiatives.
• Strengthen financial controls by improving processes, maintaining documentation and safeguarding confidential information.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or HND in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
• 3–5 years of accounting experience with responsibility for reconciliations, reporting and month‑end close.
• Professional qualification (ACA/ICAN, ACCA) or final stage of such qualification.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS, Nigerian tax regulations and statutory compliance.
• Experience in transaction‑intensive industries is an advantage.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Practical experience using accounting or ERP software.
