WASH Specialist – Talent Pool (Nigeria)

About the role
The WASH Specialist will join UNICEF’s talent pool to support the design, implementation and monitoring of water, sanitation and hygiene programmes across multiple states in Nigeria. Reporting to the Chief of WASH or WASH Manager, the role is temporary (364 days) and focuses on strengthening programme theory, results frameworks and evidence‑based planning.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and update WASH programme theory of change, results frameworks and annual work plans.
- Conduct situation, bottleneck and gap analyses to inform strategic planning.
- Provide technical guidance to UNICEF staff, government counterparts and implementing partners.
- Support preparation of donor proposals, monitoring evidence and reporting on WASH outputs.
- Coordinate humanitarian WASH preparedness and response activities.
- Facilitate networking, partnership building and knowledge management within the WASH sector.
Required profile
- Relevant university degree in public health, environmental engineering, water resources or a related field.
- Experience in designing and managing WASH programmes in humanitarian or development contexts.
- Demonstrated ability to work with government agencies, NGOs and UN partners.
- Strong analytical skills for data‑driven programme monitoring and evaluation.
Required skills
- Knowledge of UNICEF’s global WASH strategy and country‑level WASH planning tools.
- Proficiency in results‑based management and monitoring frameworks.
- Ability to produce high‑quality technical reports and donor documents.
