Social Media Intern

About the role

The Social Media Intern will support UNIC Abuja’s digital communications, online engagement, multimedia storytelling and public outreach efforts. Working under the Digital Communications Assistant, the intern will help increase the visibility of the United Nations in Nigeria through engaging social media content.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, edit and publish content for UNIC Abuja’s social media channels (X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube).
• Create multimedia assets such as short videos, reels, graphics, photo stories and infographics tailored for Nigerian audiences.
• Adapt global UN campaigns and observances for local audiences and maintain a content calendar aligned with UN priorities.
• Monitor social media trends, hashtags and audience engagement, and report insights.
• Ensure all content reflects UN values, editorial standards, multilingualism, diversity and inclusion.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a communications, journalism, media or related program.
• Strong interest in United Nations priorities and digital advocacy.
• Available for a full‑time, in‑person internship of three to six months.
• Ability to work under supervision of the Digital Communications Assistant.

Required skills

• Proficiency with social media platforms: X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube.
