Primary School Swimming Coach

About the role

St. Saviour's School Ikoyi is seeking a dedicated Swimming Coach to deliver swimming lessons to primary pupils from Reception to Year 6, in line with the UK National Curriculum. The role involves coaching swimmers of all abilities, ensuring safety, and preparing students for competitions.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver swimming sessions for pupils of varying skill levels, from beginners to advanced swimmers.
• Develop tailored training programmes to improve endurance, speed and technique.
• Prepare students for competitions, providing strategies and motivational support.
• Enforce pool rules, conduct safety checks, and respond promptly to emergencies.
• Maintain logs of emergency drills, safety inspections and pool chemical levels.
• Coordinate scheduling and events with the Head of PE and other staff.
• Monitor swimming equipment, evaluate sessions and provide feedback to senior staff.
• Supervise the lifeguard, administer first aid when needed, and ensure the pool is in good condition.
• Assess each child’s progress, award appropriate swimming certifications and communicate with parents.
• Attend regular meetings, undertake administrative duties and support any additional tasks assigned by senior leadership.

Required profile

• Minimum of a Diploma (preferably in Physical Education, Sports Science or related field).
• At least 3 years of experience coaching swimming in a school or similar setting.
• Mid‑level professional with proven ability to work with children across primary year groups.

Required skills

• Swimming coaching techniques and program development.
• First Aid certification.
• Lifeguard supervision and pool safety management.
• Knowledge of pool chemical (chlorine) monitoring.
• Ability to assess swimming ability and award certifications.
