International Data Consultant – Remote with Visits to Abuja

About the role

UNICEF is seeking an International Data Consultant to support the Nigerian Ministry of Education in mainstreaming the Education Management Information System (EMIS) across the country. The consultant will work remotely with regular visits to Abuja over a 12‑month assignment, helping to institutionalise data collection, management and use for policy and programme improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Ministry in operationalising the EMIS, including the annual school census, safe school, and student registry modules.
• Provide technical guidance on data collection, validation, analysis and reporting using the DHIS2 platform.
• Support capacity building for federal, state and local education officials and school authorities.
• Collaborate with UNICEF, the University of Oslo and other partners to ensure system sustainability.
• Monitor and evaluate data quality and usage to inform education reforms.

Required profile

• Relevant university degree or equivalent experience in education data, statistics, or information management.
• Proven experience working with large‑scale education information systems, preferably DHIS2.
• Demonstrated ability to work remotely and travel to Nigeria for field visits.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
