Director, Facilities Management & Projects

About the role

The Director, Facilities Management & Projects provides strategic and operational leadership for the university’s facilities function, ensuring safe, sustainable, and efficient use of all physical assets. The role oversees maintenance, utility services, and non‑capital projects such as minor renovations, space reconfigurations and refurbishments.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a Facilities Management Master Plan aligned with the university’s strategic objectives.
• Lead maintenance and operation of academic, residential, recreational and utility facilities, ensuring uninterrupted electricity, water and renewable energy supplies.
• Plan, coordinate and monitor non‑capital projects, including scope definition, budgeting, procurement and contractor management.
• Establish preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance programmes to maximise asset reliability.
• Implement energy‑efficiency, sustainability and environmental management initiatives.
• Prepare regular financial, operational and performance reports for senior management.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline from a reputable institution.
• Registered member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
• Minimum ten years of post‑qualification experience in facilities management, engineering or infrastructure maintenance, preferably in higher education.
• At least five peer‑reviewed publications in relevant engineering fields.

Required skills

• Proficiency in facilities management software.
• Experience with maintenance planning and project tracking tools.
• Strong budgeting and financial reporting capabilities.
• Knowledge of building systems, utilities management and asset management.
• Familiarity with health, safety and environmental (HSE) standards.
