Sexual & Reproductive Health – GBV Engagement Officer

About the role

The SRH/GBV Engagement Officer will support IRC’s efforts to increase access to quality sexual and reproductive health and gender‑based violence services for women, girls and other vulnerable populations affected by conflict and displacement in Maiduguri.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement community activities that raise awareness and encourage use of SRH and GBV services.
• Organize community meetings and small‑group discussions on SRH, GBV prevention, available services, referral options and challenges.
• Identify social, cultural, financial and logistical barriers to service access and collaborate with communities and programme teams to find realistic solutions.
• Support the development and sharing of clear, accurate, culturally appropriate information on SRH and GBV.
• Engage men, boys and community influencers as partners in preventing GBV and improving SRH outcomes.
• Work with traditional, religious, youth and women’s leaders to promote support for women’s and girls’ access to services.
• Ensure activities are inclusive of different ages, genders, abilities, languages and literacy levels, with special attention to adolescents and persons with disabilities.
• Facilitate safe, confidential referrals for GBV survivors and uphold survivor‑centered principles throughout the process.
• Build strong linkages between community groups and health facilities to improve service uptake and address facility‑based barriers.
